Is your fire alarm ready for emergency? Key to fire alarm response is the location and type of infrastructure. When you are at home, within seconds to a couple of minutes you are aware that your fire alarm has buzzed whereas in a large set up with multiple floors responding slowly to ignoring the fire alarm is usually seen. So we can say that behavior and role and accountability of occupants largely make the difference rather than the building. In airport, retail outlets like mall, theaters where generally occupants visit for a short duration, an fire alarm activation does not lead to quick and specific response. These visitors continue with their activity especially those who don't pay attention to activation of alarms. Naturally, they act as outsiders or visitors and need to be directed by the premises staff if they are required to act on such alarms. In large infrastructure interconnected detectors are there which detects fire before any occupant can perceive it through senses. So if the fire alarm is audible and the occupants can hear it, it acts as a warning signal that the interconnected detectors are activated. Occupants mostly react in a typical way when fire alarms are activated by asking questions to themselves or others in the building like "what is going on" and what is wrong" etc and may not evacuate the building immediately or take necessary steps to required after fire alarm is activated.
